Child Dedication

A Child Dedication

is a ceremony in which believing parents make a public commitment before the Lord and church to raise that child according to God's Word and God's ways. As a church, we are committed to empower parents in that calling and help families raise God-honoring kids.

We invite families with children ages 0 - 5 years to participate in the dedication event.

Responsibilities Involved in a Child Dedication

Believing parents who dedicate their child to God are making a promise to raise their child in God's Truth and lead their spiritual development. Parents who make this commitment are committing to teaching and discipling their child in God's Word, the fruits of the spirit, praying fervently and faithfully, and bringing their child to church.

An Example of a Child Dedication in Scripture

1 Samuel 1:11
Hannah prayed to God and cried and cried-inconsolably. Then she made a vow: Oh, God-of-the-Angel-Armies, if you'll take a good, hard look at my pain, if you'll quit neglecting me and go into action for me by giving me a son, I'll give him completely, unreservedly to you. I'll set him apart for a life of holy discipline. God answered Hannah's Prayer and she remembered her commitment

1 Samuel 1:26-28
Hannah said, "Excuse me, sir. Would you believe that I'm the very woman who was standing before you at this very spot, praying to God? I prayed for this child, and God gave me what I asked for. And now I have dedicated him to God. He's dedicated to God for life."

Dedication FAQs

Child Dedications are an act of public commitment before God to lead your child in spiritual development, whereas, baptisms are a personal public confession of choosing to follow Jesus once they have received salvation.

In 1 Samuel 1:27-28, a godly woman named Hannah gave birth to a son. whom she named Samuel. When Samuel was born, Hannah prayed: "I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord."

We recommend that your child be under the age of 6. If you have any questions, please connect with your Local Kids Director, Campus Pastor, or email kids@voxchurch.org.

Yes! A Child Dedication signifies the commitment of parents (including single parents) to do their best to raise their child to be a follower of Christ.

On the day of the dedication parents will be asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to the service. Seating will be reserved for parents and their family. Parents will then be called to the front of the stage where they will be introduced by the Campus Pastor and then prayed over. At some locations parents may also asked to read a letter to their child, although this is not always the case and varies by location.

Baby dedications are scheduled throughout the spring and fall seasons. Visit our Events page to see when they're scheduled for your campus: www.voxchurch.org/events
